Vanguards use strong second half to defeat Lions 18-12
Going into the 3rd quarter trailing 9-7, the Vanguards used a 7-0 run, followed by another 4 goals in the 4th quarter to defeat the visiting Cardinal O'Hara Lions 18-12 on a soggy Sun Valley field. The offense had seven different goal scorers and a combination of 16 assisted goals in the victory. Leading the way was junior attackman Kyle Gillam with 6 goals and 2 assists. Senior attackman Frankie Jackson had his best game to date with 2 goals and 5 assists.
Leading the defense was the team of Zach Hopkins, John Becker, Frank Wendling and Tyler Biddle, who for the second straight game held their opponent scoreless in the 3rd quarter. Sophomore Goaltender AJ Newman recorded 8 saves in his first varsity start, and received his first win of his career.
The win moves the Vanguards to 6-2 overall (1-1 league). They will travel to Chestmont foe Avon Grove on Thursday evening. Varisty game time is scheduled for 7pm.
